The CzechPolar2 is project providing background for scientific research in the Arctic. The project will be based in Josef Svoboda Station in Central part of Svalbard. The research is aimed at the wide spectrum of disciplines that contribute to the worldwide understanding of the global threats.

Summary

The primary aim of the CzechPolar2 project lies in providing background for the scientific research in the Arctic, the results of which significantly contribute to the worldwide understanding of the global threats (climate change, ozone hole, sea level rise, changes in ocean, carbon and greenhouse gases circulation, biodiversity threat, etc.) and technological advancement. Arctic activities are much closer interconnected with mid latitudes including Central Europe due to the ongoing climate change. The project will have based in Josef Svoboda Station in Svalbard that consists of the main base in Longyearbyen and a field station in Petuniabukta. These are the mainly locations of interest and the infrastructure will be used as a platform for a collection of environmental data and biological material. Project is planned as a support for biological studies (microbiology, parasitology, botany, zoology, algology) in the areas with main focus on ecological studies (changes in the ecosystems, life cycles of invertebrates) plus the studies on the chemical and physical environmental influences (influence of temperature, UV, chemistry on survival of organisms, carbon and greenhouse gases circulation).
