As an add-on to FAABulous RiS ID 10383 a time series of sea ice salinity will be recorded in van Mijenfjorden during the entire freezing and melting season 2016. The in-situ and non-destructive measurement method of salinity and temperature with so-called salinity harps has a high resolution in time and vertical space. Together with additional air-ice-sea interaction measurements, this time series gives a unique opportunity to investigate desalination processes. The additional measurements, data processing and interpretation are going to be the topic of Niels Fuchs' master thesis at the University of Hamburg and the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg in cooperation with Akvaplan Niva and other FAABulous project partners.
