Summary

According to the agreement between Polish Chief Inspectorate of Environment Protection and Adam Mickiewicz University, the temporary Station of Adam Mickiewicz University in Petuniabukta (AMUPS) acceded to the realization of National and European program of the Integrated Monitoring of Natural Environment (IMNE), to become a reference station, located in remote, polar area, where influences of human activity are found very limited. The Integrated Monitoring of Natural Environment program is including the following basic parts, pointing at the state of the environment: - Meteorological monitoring - Hydrological monitoring - Air pollution monitoring - Plant cover monitoring - Local micro-fauna monitoring - Soils monitoring - Geomorphological monitoring We opened also specialist programs related to polar environment individuality: - Glaciers monitoring - Permafrost monitoring Some of programs (plants, fauna, soils, geomorphology) require one-time mapping on selected test fields, located in the Ebba valley, repeated in defined multi-year intervals. Another programs are running based on temporal or permanent registration with the use of sensors and automatic loggers (meteorology, hydrology etc.). Thus, the existing measurements system, using previously registered site in the vicinity of Skottehytta was included in the program- 5 m a.s.l., (78 deg 41' 58.2" N, 16 deg 36 44.38" E) consisting of automatic weather station, two sites of ground temperature measurement and seasonal (during water flow period) river discharge registration site in the Ebba river channel. Additionally we implement complex glacier basin studies on the example of Pollockbreen - 500 m a.s.l., (78 deg 42' 02.9" N, 16 deg 50’ 39.0" E) consisting of automatic weather station and a set of ablation stakes on the glacier and river discharge registration site in front of the glacier. All installations are made with proper care, without disturbing the tundra ground and environmentally harmless, since the mid of July and we started to collect the data continuing during next seasons (2014-2018). Five years period is a minimum to obtain reliable data series pointing at environmental changes dynamics (or its lack).
