Summary

The aim of the study is to study the modern processes and resulting sedimentary deposits at the high arctic tidal coast in Braganzavagen, Svea. Most depositional models for sediments from the near-shore zone are based on research from low- and mid-latitude coasts. Arctic coasts are influenced by periglacial processes, strong seasonality, sea ice and snow cover, which affects sediment supply, erosion and sediment transport and timing of depositional events. The work will include geomorphological mapping of coastal landforms, three-dimensional sedimentological description of grain size and sedimentary structures and combine these with monitoring of modern processes(measurements of discharge, sedimentation/erosion rates and observations on snow cover, sea ice cover, melt season duration etc.). The results will yield a better understanding of Arctic tidal environments and possibly provide information about how changes in climate related parameters are reflected in the sedimentary record.
