Biology of Arctic marine benthic algae (Arctic benthic algae)

The main focus will be on Kongsfjorden seaweeds as important primary producers under condi-tions of global changes and in their relation to other components of the Kongsfjorden ecosystem. Subproject 1 (SP 1) investigates the formation of particulate organic matter (POM) from macroal-gae as food for suspension feed¬ers and detritivores. SP 2 is focu

Thank you for adding your research project to the growing pool of knowledge about the research going on in Svalbard and its surrounding waters!

As we would like you to know a bit about what is going on in Svalbard in your discipline and fieldwork surroundings, we have selected some projects that should be interesting for you to have a look at. There are {{related}} projects registered in RiS that match with your keywords, and below you will find links to the 3 that have the most relevant match.

As we all work to reduce our environmental footprint, we want to give you an easy way to find projects that have fieldwork close to you, so you can contact the project owner and coordinate your logistics whenever possible. This could also help you save some expensive costs ;) There are {{close}} projects registered in RiS that have registered their fieldwork sites within 10 km from you, and below you will find links to the 3 closest fieldwork locations.

Summary

The main focus will be on Kongsfjorden seaweeds as important primary producers under condi-tions of global changes and in their relation to other components of the Kongsfjorden ecosystem. Subproject 1 (SP 1) investigates the formation of particulate organic matter (POM) from macroal-gae as food for suspension feed¬ers and detritivores. SP 2 is focussed on demography, primary production and reproductive capacity of a Kongsfjorden kelp bed. In SP 3 an ecological network analysis of the food web within algal belts and related soft bottom habitat will be established. In SP 4 structure and diversity of soft bottom communites is studied in relation to consumer density and mechanical disturbance. SP 5 is focussed on the effects of global warming on seaweed recruitment. SP 6 studies seaweed carbon assimilation under condi-tions of increased levels of C02.
