Summary

The aim of the study is to describe and quantify the way of the matter circulation (both particulate and dissolved) in polar terrestrial - marine ecosystem (Billefjorden and its catchment). We put emphasis on relationship between environmental / climatic changes and fluctuations of the matter balance, and influence of anthropogenic impact on it. This year field activity will combine the monitoring of meteorological (two automatic meteorological stations) and glacio-hydrological (glacier ice movement, temperature and ablation, river discharges and loads, spatial distribution of precipitation, snow conditions, permafrost) conditions. It will be supplemented by continuation of geological observation (types of rocks and related weathering differences, early cementation), geomorphological mapping (actualization of the existing map), studies of contemporary processes of erosion, transportation and deposition, and marine experiments on the matter fluxes and sedimentation rates.
